Reflecting your brand through colour choice
Colours have the powerful ability to connect people to an organisational brand or image through ideas, feelings, and connotations. Many business and organizations will spend thousands of dollars in ensuring that this is achieved with the public, but often overlook using the built environment as a branding tool.
A branded environment is a physical space that visually emulates the foundation and core of the company through features such as wall graphics. Reflecting the brand in our work environment allows us to discover what is unique and engaging about the work we do, and there are ways to incorporate this through shapes, materials, and colour.
Colour is deeply ingrained in our lives, and notably, affects our experience of the world around us. Once, merely an elocutionary choice, colour is now used as a tool to connect employees to the organisational brand image, by helping them understand who they work for and why. Colour can also improve our employee’s experience at work, positively affecting their concentration, morale, and mood. To produce these benefits of colour and branding, it is important to understand how different colours combine with each other, and with other elements such as shapes, materials and ornamentation. For these reasons, we should be sensitive to all aspects of colour, using it to positively affect the harmony of the workplace and its users.
